PUTIN BY PLATON, 2007. Published here by kind permission of Platon. (c) Platon, 2007.

My good friend Andreas and his boss Platon went off on a trip to Moscow a few weeks back to shoot Vladimir Putin for Time Magazine. I’m told that the shoot took 5 minutes! Nice work if you can get it boys! The only head of state I have shot lately was Hugo Chávez (2006) but I had the whole UK press pack next to me at the time, but I did get to spend a bit more time with him.

FRONT COVER OF THE PRESS GAZETTE, 21.09.07. Published here by kind permission of the Press Gazette. (c) Press Gazette, 2007.

A few quotes about yours truly from the UK press in 2007. The full list of articles can be found here.

“Veteran photographer Marc Vallee was covering the ’sack parliament’ protest on 09 October last year when he alleges he was injured by police officers…”
- The British Journal of Photography.
www.bjp-online.com

‘This is a significant case because freedom of speech is one of the cornerstones of democracy and safeguards afforded to the press are particularly important…Marc Vallee was lawfully present to photograph a political protest outside parliament, yet received injuries at the hands of Metropolitan police officers. In these circumstances it is hoped that the commissioner of the Metropolitan police will swiftly confirm that neither he nor his officers have any legal power or moral responsibility to prevent or restrict what the media record, and resolve this case urgently.’
– Chez Cotton, The British Journal of Photography.

“Key democratic principles are at stake here and we are determined to do everything in our power to make sure that Marc gets justice.”
- NUJ general secretary Jeremy Dear, BBC News.

‘I know you have a bad back and I know how you got it.”

IFJ Media Release: “Israel Talking Peace and Prosecuting Journalists Not Acceptable Says IFJ as Reporters Face Jail Threat”

The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) today called on the Israeli authorities to abandon plans to prosecute journalists who visited Lebanon and Syria, countries with which Israel has no formal relations, in the course of their work.

“At a time when key players in the region are talking peace it is grotesque that journalists should be facing prosecution for doing their job”

said Aidan White, IFJ general secretary.
