I have posted about the case of the Bilal Hussein before here. Things have moved on a bit over the last week:

“We believe that Bilal Hussein has been singled out because of his work as a journalist. While we are glad that there is finally some development that may lead to the end of his imprisonment without charges, we are concerned still about the lack of specificity against him. We have long said that Bilal Hussein was nothing more than a reputable A.P. journalist doing his job, and our position about that has not changed.”
– Kathleen Carroll, executive editor of the A.P.

Remembrance Sunday.

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM – 26.04.06. Families of fallen Iraq war victims lay wreaths at the Cenotaph and hand a letter into 10 Downing Street on April 26, 2006 in London, England. (Photo by Marc Vallée/marcvallee.co.uk) (c) Marc Vallée, 2006.

Today is Remembrance Sunday when the nation remembers its war dead. My family and I remember my Great Grandfather who survived being gassed in the trenches of the First World War and who later died as a result of those injuries during the Second World War. We also remember my Great Uncles who did not return home to east London from the First World War trenches.

Dennis Cooper : “Marc Vallée is one of my favorite contemporary photographers. Many artists are photographing the young, but Vallée’s work is exceptional and solitary, avoiding the kneejerk tendency to either define the young through their fashion sense or create the impression of communing with them by smothering them with fashionable aesthetics. His photographs are fully interested in their subjects, somehow more respectful of their beauty and emotions and, at the same time, more invasive of their privacy than any other youth oriented images out there. Vallée’s work is ravishing, noble, unique, and irresistible.”

Here are 3 new prints from my Youth Culture work. Sam is skateboarder and mathematician from north-west London. To view more of my Youth Culture images from the last ten years click on the links below.
